It's 2021 which means we've already spent 20+ years in this millennium. We've had plenty of time for the good, the bad, and the downright scary to come in and out of style.
So get ready for some early 2000's humor and some serious flashbacks. Here are some milestone beauty trends we will never forget from the past 20 years. Also, we'll touch on how some transformed into today's trends.
Frosted Makeup (and Tips)
From Britney Spears to Christina Aguilera, all the hotties of the 2000s wore frosted makeup. Can we blame them? We just rang in a New Millenium! It's no wonder everyone wanted to look like Zenon. Faces were flaunting silver, blue and purple eyeshadow with - dare we share it - frosted and glossy lips. Looking back, it was all around 🤖 makeup.
But don't think the boys went unscathed. To match, nearly every stud in a boyband had bleached tips dappling their spikey hair. Cue Paris Hilton because "That's Hot."
Looking around today, you'll see glimpses of the frosted makeup trend rearing its ugly head. Pastel shadows and liners are making a comeback. What do you think? Are you here for it?
Tan Like You're From the Jersey Shore
Remember Snooki? If your skin didn't glow like an orange highlighter, you weren't doing it right. Bad spray tans are as notable of the 2000s as Nelly's Hot In Herre soundtrack. Since then, so many wonderful brands have emerged that make sunless tanning a delight. Just think twice about how much you apply because if you end up looking like a member of The Jersey Shore, I'll repeat after Shaggy: "It wasn't me."
Anything-but-Natural Highlights & Styles
It's not the 2000s without spotting tiger-striped brunette and blonde highlights. 🐯 Two-toned hair was simply the way to go. Remember Christina Aguilera in Dirty? We didn't. Unforgettable hairstyles also include side-swept bangs, crimped hair, side ponies, designer headbands (Baby Phat, anyone?), and the infamous "poof." Don't forget your favorite butterfly clips before going to see Legally Blonde in theaters.
Scarily Skinny 2000s Stars Now Embrace Curves
It seems most IT girls from the past few decades were skinny - like too skinny. (How else could you flaunt those low-rider bedazzled jeans?) Thankfully, society realized women don't have to resemble an asparagus stick. Whether we can thank the Kardashians or just feminism in general, womanly curves are HERE today. From embracing pasta to Cardi B., it's sexy to have some junk in the trunk. Let's hope curves are here to stay in Hollywood and beyond.
