Quick question… what exactly is a neurotoxin?
Neurotoxins are FDA-approved injectables used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Most of them all use the same active ingredient, Botulinum toxin type A (BoNT)—hence the name Botox. In short, they’re muscle relaxers.
Once injected, BoNT works to block your nerves and forces the muscle to relax. This relaxed muscle smooths out your facial skin and improves the signs of aging.
Besides aesthetics, neurotoxins are also useful for some medical issues. According to the Mayo Clinic, they can help reduce muscle spasms, correct lazy eyes, reduce sweat in armpits, and ease chronic migraines.
Why offer 3 types of neurotoxins?
Clients ask us this question all the time. Many people think, “Isn’t Botox the best one?” Well, not all neurotoxins are created equal. Manufactured by different companies, they all boast different formulas and thus offer different benefits. There is no “one winner” that does it all.
It’s important to have multiple neurotoxins options because all clients are different. Some have allergies, some require more targeted injections, and some are looking to prevent fine lines. Different client needs call for different injectable options!

Let’s Compare: Botox®, Dysport®, vs. Nuceiva®
1. The Queen B, Botox 👑
The oldest and most popular injectable neurotoxin is Botox. The name has become synonymous with neurotoxin. Because of its proven formula and decades on the market, Botox is used for many of those medical treatments—plus it’s great at wrinkles. Botox is ideal for treating smaller areas, like around crow’s feet on the eyes. While it can take up to 14 days to take maximum effect, Botox lasts up to three or four months.
2. The Lighter Option, Dysport 🪶
If Botox is great for targeted injections, Dysport is great for surface area. The proteins in Dysport make it lighter and ideal to “spread” across larger surfaces of skin. For example, Dysport is a smart option when treating the forehead. Dysport results are quicker than Botox too and show effect just 24 hours after injection. Its only downfall is that Dysport sometimes lasts less time than Botox.
3. Canada’s Champion, Nuceiva 🇨🇦
Nuceiva® is Canada’s newest and most advanced neuromodulator. Nuceiva temporarily relaxes specific muscles by blocking nerve impulses, similar to Botox. What’s the difference? Well, with Nuceiva it’s mainly the cost. Nuceiva is a bit more affordable than Botox by 25%.

Neurotoxins are generally safe when administered by a professional injector, so they’re a great solution for many.
